Honour Board

Life Members

Life membership is the highest award the club can bestow on a member of the Club. This award recognises outstanding service to the club above and beyond what was required.


The criteria for consideration of life membership is:
● 10 years' membership of the Club
● Contributed to at least 3 years on either committee or coaching
● For men, played in at least two different teams

 
Life Member #1  Graeme Hamilton

Graeme joined the club in 1971 and served on the Committee for 2 years.
Graeme was inducted as the first life member in 1981.


Life Member #2  David Hamilton

David joined the club in 1971 and served on the Committee for 3 years. Won Leading Goal Scorer award.
David was inducted as the second life member in 1983.


Life Member #3  Tony Mason

Tony joined the club in 1971.
He played for 24 years and was on the committee for 6 years.
In his time Tony won 3 Best and Fairest and 2 Player’s player awards.
Tony was honoured as the Captain of the 40th anniversary team.
Tony was inducted as the third life member in 2001.


Life Member #4  Mark Allister

Mark joined the club in 1980.
He played for 15 years and was on the Committee for 13 years, serving as President for 7 years.
Mark was inducted as the third life member in 2002.


Life Member #5  Matthew Carmichael

Matthew joined the club in 1992.
He is still an active player. Matt spent 7 years on the committee, serving 5 years as President.
In his time at the club Matt has won 2 Player’s Player and 2 Top Goal Scorer awards.

Received an Outstanding Service award from La Trobe University in 2008.
Matthew was inducted as the fifth life member in 2005.


Life Member #6  Paul Allister

Paul joined the club in 1978.
He played for 10 years and served on the Committee for 8 years, all as President.
Paul was inducted as the sixth life member in 2007.


Life Member #7  Bruno Klepp

Bruno joined the club in 1983. He is still an active player.
Bruno was on the Committee for 3 years, serving 1 year as President.
Bruno has also coached the senior men’s team for 2 years and the reserves for 3 years.
In his time, he has won 1 Player’s Player and 2 Top Goal Scorer awards.
Bruno was named as a reserve on the 40th anniversary team.
Bruno was inducted as the seventh life member in 2007.


Life Member #8  Thomas Nehrmann

Thomas joined the club in 1975. He played 20 years and served on the Committee for 5 years.
He won 2 Best and fairest Awards.
Thomas was named as a reserve player on the 40th anniversary team.
Thomas was inducted as the eighth life member in 2008.

 

Life Member #9  Naomi Hirst

Naomi joined in 1997. She played for 18 years and served on the Committee for 6 years.
In her time Naomi won 6 Player’s Player awards.
Naomi has had a high impact on the running and direction of the Club, specifically the women’s teams.

Naomi received an Outstanding Service award from La Trobe University in 2006 and a Life Membership to the University in 2011.

Naomi was inducted as the ninth life member in 2008.

 
Life Member #10  John Antonopoulos

John joined in 1989. He is still an active player.
John has served over 15 years on the committee and coached the Third men’s team for 2 years.

John received an Outstanding Service award from La Trobe University in 2012.

John was inducted as the tenth life member in 2009.

Life Member #11  Gabriel Phillips

Gabriel joined in 1993. He is still an active player.
Gabriel has spent 13 years on the committee, serving 4 years as President.
In 1995 Gabriel started the women’s team and coached for 8 years. He is currently coaching Women's State 2 team. He was named as a reserve player on the 40th anniversary team.
Gabriel received an Outstanding Service award from La Trobe University in 2008 and Life Membership to the University in 2011.
Gabriel was inducted as the eleventh life member in 2009.

Life Member #12  Derrick Berends

Derrick joined in 1993. He played for 24 years and served on the Committee for 7 years.

Derrick won 4 Best and Fairest and 7 Player’s Player awards. He was named as a starting player on the 40th anniversary team.

Derrick was inducted as the twelfth life member in 2010.

 

Life Member #13  Nick Gonis

Nick joined in 1993. He is still an active player and an Assistant Coach of the Senior team. He was on the Committee for 4 years, serving as President for 1 year and coaching for 8 years. 
Nick was inducted as the thirteenth 
life member in 2012.

Life Member #14  Laurie Renda

Laurie joined in 1994. He is still an active player and Coach of the Men's Reserves. He has served on the committee for 6 years and coached for 3 years.

During his time at the Club, he has won 3 Best and Fairest and 1 Player’s Player award. He was named as a starting player on the 40th anniversary team. 

Laurie was inducted as the fourteenth life member in 2014.

Life Member #15  Savas Liaskos

Savas joined in 1992. He is still an active player.

He has served on the Committee for 6 years.

Savas was inducted as the twelfth life member in 2017.

Timeline of Club History

1967 University seeks interest from students to form soccer club.
1968 La Trobe University Soccer Club is formed.
1971 After a 2 year lay off, the club is reformed.
1974 The club is registered to the play in the Victorian Soccer Federation Victorian District League North.
1983 The club gets promoted to Victorian Amateur League Division 1.
1985 The Reserve’s Team wins Victorian Amateur League Division 1 Championship.
1986 The Reserve’s Team wins Victorian Amateur League Division 2 Championship.
1986 The club gets promoted to Victorian Amateur League Division 1.
1995 The Club forms the LUSC Women’s Team to play in the Women’s Soccer Victoria Division 4.
1997 The club welcomes the Warriors Veteran’s Team to join the club to form the La Trobe University Warriors.
1997 The Men’s Senior Team gets promoted to Victorian Provisional League Division 2 North-West.
1999 The Women’s Team joins the Victorian Soccer Federation Division 1.
1999 The club forms the La Trobe University Third’s.
2001 The Women’s Team win the Victorian Women’s Division 1 Championship and gets promoted to Victorian Women’s Premier League.
2001 The Warriors win Victorian Veterans League Division North West Championship.
2004 The Lower Playing Fields Pavilion is built and opened on June 1st.
2004 The Men’s Senior Team gets promoted to Victorian Provisional League Division 1 North-West.
2005 The Reserve’s Team wins the Victorian Provisional League Division 1 North-West Championship.
2005 The Men’s Senior team gets promoted to Victorian State League Division 3 North-West.
2006 The Fourth’s Team (Eagles) is created.
2006 The Third’s Team wins Victorian Thirds Division North Championship.
2007 The Women’s Team win the Victorian Women’s State 3 North West Championship.
2008 The current Old Boy’s Team is formed, winning the Championship in their first year.
2011 The Senior Men’s Team wins promotion to Victorian Men’s State League 2 North West.
2013 The Women’s team wins promotion back to State 2 North West, after relegation in 2012.
2014 A Fifth Men’s Team (Super Eagles) is created.
2014 The current State 4 Women’s Team is created. For the 3rd time, LUSC has 2 women’s teams.
2016 The Third’s (Eagles) team win the Men’s Metropolitan League 2 North-West Championship.
