University have got their season back on track with a convincing 4-1 victory against Corio in Geelong.

Playing some of their best football this year, University tore up the Corio midfield with slick passing and quick movement off the ball.

Damir Mitric was exceptional, with his penetrating runs from the midfield frustrating the Corio defence for most of the game. Cuong Pham also displayed season best form as he consistently played threatening balls into the University forward line.

Mitric was instrumental in the first goal. He picked up the ball from the top of the 18-yard box and ran it to the touch line. He drilled the ball low across the six-yard box to find Pat Devuno who hit the ball into the keeper. The ball rebounded into the path of Lino Lidestri who guided the ball into the goal net.

Lidestri was unlucky not to record a second when he was ruled offside after he had already shot the ball into the goal. He wasn't disappointed for long though, when another Mitric assist left him with only the keeper to beat. Lidestri's clinical finish gave Corio keeper, John Kantzidis, no chance.

Corio clawed a goal back late in the first half when Dusan Bijelic pounced on the ball after an error in the University penalty area.

After three loses in a row, University were determined not to let the result slip and were clearly the stronger team following the half time break.

Mitric continued to threaten and was eventually rewarded when his strike from the right side of the penalty box crept inside the left goal post.

John Clark sealed the victory for University with a tap-in goal late in the second half.

University's next match is at home against Geelong.

University's Reserve team recorded a 1-1 draw and remain top of the ladder.
