Round 4 saw the undefeated men’s seniors team make the trip down the Ring Road, right turn at Furlong Road, then express to Cairnlea soccer club where there was a kite flying competition on the back of a gale force wind.
The only change to the starting line up saw the influential & tower of the back line, tap tap Jimmy replaced by the Luxemburg national team captain, Hubert. The game got off to a cracking pace with Usain Bolt of Carinlea terrorizing La Trobes David ‘Carl Lewis’ G. However after 10 x 100m sprints along the wing he was unable to translate that to anything for Carinlea. La Trobe then started to get their act together & soon enough found themselves in front through the brilliance of David ‘our English run around the keeper friend’ Greening. He made it a hatrick of taking on the keeper to calmly slot home his 4th of the season. The La trobes revserves team barely had a chance to take a bite of their Haci’s Kebab before Cairnlea then nipped one back from a corner. Usain Bolt dashed from the Caribbean to slot one through the near post. A minor tactical change from the La trobe coaching staff saw Hubert ‘Luxemburg national team captain’ S move from the left to right of the middle. Sure enough this brilliant move ignited a flurry of attacking football from La Trobe which soon enough saw young Nick ‘Disco’ Vissaris miss hit an intended cross in to the corner of the goals nesting a couple of pigeons, he’ll claim it though & what followed was a little jig usually reserved for the dance floor of Croko over 28’s. The scoring didn’t stop with David ‘our English run around the keeper friend’ Greening deciding he won’t be upstaged by this little punk & going for a stroll around the entire Cairnlea backline to calmly slot La Trobes 3rd goal & retake the spotlight. Shot’s from the Skipper & Luca ‘how’s my hair’ Lavalle also followed which could’ve easily seen the score rocket out to 5. We had to settle for a 3-1 score line at the break.
The second half started without La Trobe as Carinlea slotted 2 quick goals to even up the game. Apparently Musti ‘Skipper’ Dinc ran out of paper while in the bathroom & wouldn’t let anyone else lead the team out. So, the team had to wait for Lino to turn up with some much needed supplies. Some others might blame Nick ‘pepe’ Hendry for this as he was the only person on the field (so he thought) however he was seeing stars from an earlier challenge & can’t be blamed (get well soon champ). Once La Trobe retook the field, things started to get back on track with a much settled performance. Hubert ‘Luxemburg national team captain’ S found himself on the end of a brilliant through ball from I don’t know who to calmly slot a wonderful shot over the Cairnlea keeper to put the lads back ahead. From this point on Cairnlea would be chasing the game through till the final whistle. To put the result beyond doubt, Luca ‘how’s my hair’ Lavalle capped off a brilliant game by getting on the end of a error by the last man to slot his first for the season past the keeper. Final result saw la trobe take it out 5-3 & leave the team undefeated in 4 games in 3rd place on the table.
Best on ground – Daniel Savic for outwitting, outplaying, outlasting Daniel Seiny in a game of paper/rock/sissors to see who would take the field between them as the last change. Unlucky for him he had to wash the tops….
