LUSC Reserves Vs Avondale Heights 0-2 (0-0)

Despite lacking 5 of the starting players from the week before, La Trobe still fielded a strong team with first appearances the season from Lucas, Tommy, John Hearns and Vedran.

La Trobe got off to good start, creating a couple of early chances, but had a hard time getting organised defensively in the first half. Playing a very deep defence, they were giving the opposition too much time on the ball. The half time result 0-0 could well have been 1-1 or 2-2, had both the teams capitalised on their chances.

Making two early changes during the half time break, and another 10 minutes into the half gave La Trobe more possession of the ball, but still was unable to score on a couple of very good chances. With 25 minutes left, La Trobe was down to 10 men after Nick DeLuca had to leave the park with a cracked ribbed, which made it hard for them to keep possession of the ball – something nick had done very well before he had to go off.

Losing the defensive composure, so strongly displayed in the previous games, Avondale could score both once and twice before full time. The first one from a suspiciously offside standing striker, and the second from a penalty – but both goals from very poor defending on our side.

Recording the first loss of the season, the reserves got a well needed wake-up call and will need to put their heads up and focus on the next game against Westvale. For the La Trobe supporters the most entertaining moments of the day must have been the drunken linesmen running around making a parody out of the world game, and themselves.
