Vote Count

The vote count to determine the Best and Fairest for the club was held on Sunday 7th September. All the teams except the Eagles and Women, who have planned to hold their counts on separate nights, attended. This year the vote count was aided with a new spreadsheet format (Yes, Gabby loves a good spreadsheet!)

The betting books were opened 30 minutes before the vote count. Ceri and Cang, established themselves as the 2 clear favourites for the seniors. The reserves having used 42 players for the year, was a lot more open with no clear favourite.

The vote count for the Thirds and Old boys was pretty much determined with 3 games to go, but the seniors and reserves went down to the last rounds. Congratulations all for a great season, but a special well done to the following winners

To finish the night the reverse raffle final was drawn. Well done to the Cuong/Ceri/Nick Moutis/Marco syndicate for taking out the big $3,000 prize. Thank you to everybody that has bought a ticket, with the reverse raffle raising $900 for the club.

La Trobe OLE, We are here to stay!

The Seniors have ended the year with an almighty bang. Many are calling this one of the greatest days in the clubs history and have celebrated it accordingly with supporters and players joining together to sing the club song. Click here to play the club song.

All signs were pointing to a good day for La Trobe. Before the kick off, the seniors and reserves gathered in the rooms galvanising the unity which has held the club together during the battle to avoid relegation. The atmosphere was electric and I am sure the Lalor Utd team was rocked by the roar as the boys went out form the rooms

The game started with La Trobe being the dominant side. However, the occasion saw the boys just rushing the game a bit. After about 30 minutes the La Trobe side started to settle and started playing some good soccer. But for all the endeavour, there was little to show and the score at half time was 0-0.

What followed in the second half, can only be described as purely inspirational. After 5 minutes, Ceri ran on to a through ball to deftly play the ball over the oncoming keeper for the first goal. Lalor Utd tried to hit back and gained a free kick from in a very dangerous position. However, the ball was cleared from the free kick to Lino on the half way line, who went pass 3 Lalor Utd players to neatly score past the keeper.

As Lalor Utd pushed forward looking for goals, they exposed themselves to the opportunity of being put under pressure on the break. La Trobe seized this opportunity to create some great goal scoring chances. With 15 minutes to go La Trobe scored again through Ceri. To La Trobe's credit, they did not stop to the final whistle and Luca and Anthony scored 2 very late goals, which were vital in ensuring La Trobe avoided relegation.

To make the victory all the more sweeter, the 7 -1 result between Yarraville and Westvale, which can only be described as farcical at best, sees Yarraville stay below La Trobe. It is unfathomable to believe the 10th place team would beat the 3rd best team 7-1 without some impropriety taking place. La Trobe's result just goes to prove, that a club with integrity and character will always be better than an immoral club that will cheat and buy its results.

Eagles make it 3!

The Eagles have completed the clean sweep of championships for all the teams competing in the Thirds league. This is the first championship for the Eagles in their third year of existence.

Needing a win, the Eagles got off to a great start scoring in the first 5 minutes. What followed was an intense battle, with some really good soccer being played. With some dangerous situations building, the Eagles showed their desire to win, throwing their bodies in the way of the ball.

The game was put to bed in the last 5 minutes with a well worked corner. Johnathon and Robert played a short corner, which released Robert on the corner of the box. The resulting wicked shot left the keeper for dead. It hit the underside of the bar and bounced out to three willing Eagles, who were mor ethan happy to tap in for the easiest of goals.

The Eagles would like to make a special thank you to all the 50+ supporters that came to cheer them on.

Championships for Thirds and Old Boys

The club would like to congratulate the Thirds and Old Boys on winning the chmpionships. The thirds have literally had the perfect season winning every game for the year. The FFV have confimred that this has broken the record books. The last longest winning streak for any team ever has been 13 is now set to 17. Also, no team has ever gone through a year without dropping a point.

The Old Boys have also had an outstanding year. Considering the team never trained and only played 2 practice games before the season started, it is a remarkable acheivement to win the championship in their inaugural year.
